It's a cool... cool summer...

Well it is now almost August, and I think it has been the coolest summer in history in MN. The kids have been to the pool a grand total of twice. Luckily, there is photo evidence.

The kids don't seem to mind, and have filled their days with lots of biking, playing on their fort (Cadel is so brave - she goes up the stairs and down the slide all by herself already!).

Ron and I took a trip to Breckenridge, CO for a 'grown-up trip'. It was a great trip but brrrrr! We were in pants and sweatshirts and we even biked in the snow!

We are now looking forward to our next time off work for a family vacation in August which will take us to Marquette, Michigan, where Ron will make his first attempt at the Ore to Shore race. Then we will hit up the Wisconsin Dells for FOUR DAYS of waterparking action before heading to Chicago for our last leg of the trip for some sight seeing and more bike racing action.

The kids have had a great time at the races this year, participating in the kids' events. Ullrich is an avid racer... although he's not in a hurry whatsoever, so that is cute. Cadel did 1 race, and seemed to really really like it (after screaming "I, TOO!" at the first race when we didn't have her on the course). The races that have followed, she has met with tears and total resistance. The announcer at the past couple is a good friend of Ron's, and has noted her bad attitude publicly. Here they are racing full garb!

This year we spent the 4th of July in the Twin Cities, and had a great family weekend. We went to a party at a friends' house in Bloomington (our suburb) and the kids were able to play on a trampoline, run around all afternoon and evening, and then see the fireworks perfectly from their yard. It was a great time.
We also made a family trip up to Telemark where we swam, played mini golf, and went to a bonfire complete w/ s'mores. Ron got some mountain biking in, to prepare for the Cheq fattire fest in September. We had another perfect family weekend!

We had some special visitors this past weekend in July. The Meyer's finally got away for their 'grown-up trip' and I kept Harmon and Tory for a long weekend. Ron was away for some racing so it was truly a single mom experience for me. We had a great time. We went to a party at the 'jumping place' on Saturday, played outside, and went out on Nanny Val's parents' boat on Sunday. Harmon and I even got some Wii Star Wars Legos in. All in all it was a great time. Here are a couple of shots from the boating excursion.

All in all, we can't complain about the cool cool summer. Hope yours is fun, too.
Love, The Scherer Family

May Update

Well, we are in to June, and I'm posting May photos. Better late...

Anyway, as of June 1, Ron has officially joined me in our business, Mount Curve Consulting. We are also adding Target to our client list (officially, Target and Best Buy are our clients -- not too shabby, right?).

The kids are doing awesome, and as evidenced by the pictures, enjoying the summer. It hasn't been quite warm enough to do any swimming yet, but the kids are enjoying playing outside, and playing with water guns at Aunt Heidee's house with the cousins is a big hit so far. We've had a lot of fun with family so far this summer.

Ullrich helped to plant a kitchen garden and herb garden - both are doing pretty well. Hopefully we'll have some yummy fruits and veggies later this summer.

Ron's bike racing season is officially underway, and so far it seems to be going well. Many of his favorite races are later in the summer, so right now he just likes to get as much riding in as possible.

That is the bulk of the May update. Much love to all.

Spring is here?

April has finally brought some time for the kids to play outside, and it will come as no surprise that the kids are LOVING it. They are enjoying the sandbox, bikes, and the best investment ever - our Backyard Adventures fort / playground. Cadel climbs all the way up the tall ladderand no fear right down the big slide. She even tried it head first once - yikes! Ullrich is most proud of his big boy biking. He would ride his bike all the time if we let him. With all the time the kids want to spend outside, we are finally starting to make some progress on our yard, too! We had a terrific Easter this year, spending morning at home as a family, followed by brunch with the Scherer family, and then an Easter egg hunt at our friends the Dixons' house with Ullrich and Cadel's friends Tuco and Ronnie. The kids had a blast and found waaaay too much candy, of course! It has been great having Heidee, Chuck, Harmon, and Tory back in MN, too. We've clocked a ton of cousin time, and have the Iowa relatives convinced that they should come up here for birthdays and maybe even holidays going forward. It is so fun for Ullrich to regularly get to see his Grimes side family and he so loves them. You'll see pictures from our zoo trip and Harmon's 8th birthday mixed in this set. Life is so great right now. We both have client work that we really like, and plenty of time to spend with our amazing little family. Love to all of you, friends!!

Ch ch ch changes....

Wow - a lot has gone down since our last post... instead of a 'baby' and a 2 year old, we now have a 1 year old and a 3 year old! Where did that year go?!

The kids both had remarkable birthdays this year. Ullrich had his first 'kid' party, and we hosted ~50 people at Pump it Up for jumping fun followed by pizza and cake! We collected a big basket of donations for the Ronald McDonald house, and we've been invited to tour so Ullrich can see what his donations are all about. Cadel had a party with family at home. She was a perfect birthday girl - she was in a great mood, showed lots of personality, and impressed with her cake consumption. As Ron says, the first birthday is all about Mom... hence the wardrobe changes and fancy whimsical cake.

In other news, I have launched my new consulting company "Mount Curve Consulting"! I will be starting my first assignment on 3/25 at Best Buy. I am very excited about both the new company and the consulting gig. Stay tuned for more updates.

Ron is readying for biking season, and is especially proud of the new addition to his fleet -- I will let him share the details of his new mountain bike.

We are all super excited for the Meyer's to arrive back in town this coming week. It will be so nice to see Chuck, Heidee, Harmon, and Tory more often.

That's it for now. Enjoy the new pictures!!

Happy New Year!!

The Holidays have come and gone in a whirlwind, and we are reminded that we are so insanely blessed with the wonderful family we are building.

For all of our driving and nights in hotels, our children were model citizens. Ullrich was relieved that Santa found us in our hotel in Des Moines! We spent Christmas day at my parents' church with Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins to play with.

Ron and I had the fun but weird opportunity to meet up with some of my old highschool friends (and frenemies?!) while we were in Des Moines.... thank you to FaceBook.

We hosted a mini-Christmas celebration at the house with Uncle Gary and Grandpa Bob, the weekend after. The kids now think that they get presents any time they see a relative. I can see where it could be confusing.

New Years was a bit anti-climatic for the Scherers. I think we were all sleeping by 10:30pm! Life with children... and no babysitters, apparently (we are working on that one!).

After New Years, we took a short vacation to the Wisconsin Dells where we took in some serious water park action and stayed at a cabin with Grandpa Scherer.

The kids continue to amaze us with their growth. We had Cadel's 9 month doctor's appointment and she had put on around a pound and 6 ounces in the month since her flu shot! She is 50th % for weight, and 75th for length. She has added several words to her vocabulary which now includes "hi (more like hiiiiiiiiii)", "dada", "mama", "brother" (well, some semblance of it, anyway), "uh-ohhh", and more. Her neatest accomplishment lately has been jumping off the edge of the swimming pool (from a seated position) into the pool. She LOVES the water, and seems to have no fear of it. Cadel is a little snuggler, and will cuddle right up and also pat you on the back. She's our princess, and I am a little obsessed with putting her in dresses, tights, and little hair bows and clips.

Ullrich is becoming quite a little man. He is fully potty-trained, with no accidents on any of our trips, even in his swim diaper. He is diligent! He is really growing a great imagination, and likes to pretend now. His little friend Mandy who comes to work with Val sometimes taught him to pretend he was a dog, which he really enjoys. He likes to dress up in his hockey gear and be "a real hockey guy". One of my favorite things is catching him reading books to himself. He has already memorized one that we got for Christmas, and his presentation is very adorable (he now corrects me when I miss a word). He is always laughing, and he likes to tell us "jokes" and be silly. He is our funny, smart, talkative little character.

The kids continue their love affair with one another. We ask ourselves often if all siblings are this good to each other. They keep each other smiling and laughing. People often stop to watch them when they are interacting together in a restaurant or public place because they are just usually roaring with laughter. We are a little nervous that our 3rd might not fare well trying to break in :)

We wish all of you health, happiness, and peace in the New Year. More next month...
